How Young Sensitive Women can Honour their Sensitivity

Many young, sensitive women go through their teenage years and their 20’s thinking that their sensitivity is blocking their full potential.

Sensitivity is an innate characteristic that is a key element of many young women’s personality. Suppressing or hiding an integral trait, that allows us to feel deeply, feels like it is required in order to be strong and successful, however, this can result in inauthenticity.

More likely than not, many of you young women growing up, were not taught how you could honour your sensitivity. You were probably either told to brush it off or to become stronger, but, being stronger does not mean to numb your feelings. In fact, showing that you actually care shows humanity and the bravery that you possess to honour your sensitivity.

Here are 3 ways you, as a young woman, can be true to your sensitivity:

1 – Acceptance

Accepting that you have a beautiful and unique gift of sensitivity that allows you to understand and connect with others will allow you to honour your authentic self. This is the first step to being true to yourself as you realise that this is a huge part of who you are, your identity, and your being.

2 – View your sensitivity as a power, not a weakness

Mindset and perception is everything. Do not allow the negative opinions on the concept of sensitivity from others around you dictate how you, personally, feel about sensitivity. The truth of the matter is that your sensitivity and empathy is needed in this world more than you can imagine. There is power in knowing that people can trust you, confide in you, and see you as a reliable friend, family member, partner or a co-worker.

3 – Acknowledge the amazing gifts that your sensitive personality brings with it!

As a young woman, a sensitive personality is not just about being an excellent listener, empathic communicator or a trusted, kind individual. There are many more positive personality traits that you possess which you may not have even realised!

One of the core, and underrated traits is the ability to have self-awareness. Sensitive women, like yourself, can understand the power of their words and actions on the people around them. They possess high emotional intelligence which enables them to accept their mistakes instead of pretending that they are always right.

You can see when unhealed parts of yourself may unintentionally be limiting your personal or professional growth. You can also understand how unhealed trauma, if any, can affect your loved ones, if it is not dealt with constructively.

Final thoughts <3

While it may be considered a norm for many young women to be sensitive, being taught how to honour and appreciate this sensitivity is not a common practice. Just remember, you have the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes, and be the patient, listening ear that they needed. Your sensitivity is a silent gift that doesn’t require flashiness; it is the energy that it felt, not seen, and it is valuable, way more than you can imagine! 🙂
